Even the Small Things in Nature Carry lessons

The changing of the leaves reminds me that no season lasts forever. Each one comes to an end, only to give way to the next.
Life is no different.
Every stage we walk through has a beginning and an end, each one shaping us for what’s ahead. Yet, in the middle of our seasons, it’s easy to forget they are temporary. Easy to forget they are not punishment, but preparation.
Nature is the perfect mirror of this truth. The leaves change and fall. Seeds are carried away by the wind to begin again. Flowers blossom in their appointed time, and when their petals wither, it is not failure- it is part of their survival. The flower does not resist its withering; it surrenders, knowing that its decline is only the prelude to another bloom.
And I, too, am like the flower.
There are seasons when I need to be watered more deeply. Seasons when my petals fade so that, in time, I can bloom again. We are not meant to shine constantly. There are moments when we step back and let others shine, and that is not weakness, it is wisdom. It is strength to know when to rest, when to grow in silence, and when to blossom at the peak of our purpose.
I know that now.
For even in nature, nothing thrives alone. The seeds need the wind. The flowers need the rain. The plants need the sun. Each plays its role in the great community of creation. We, too, are woven into this cycle of life, though in the rush of society we often forget it. Nature remains steady, peaceful, faithful to God’s rhythm, while we fight against the very seasons meant for our growth. A flower does not bloom in winter, and neither should we expect ourselves to.
Even the small things in nature carry lessons.
I watch the bright berries glow–vivid, inviting- yet poisonous to any who consume them. How much does that mirror our own lives? We gorge on what drains our souls: social media, distractions, empty pleasures- all because of the fleeting thrill they offer. But like the berries, they leave us sick within.
Still, the leaves remind me: nothing remains the same. The brilliance of those berries will fade when the season shifts, yet their danger lingers as long as they are consumed. And so it is with us. Our growth, our blooming, our stillness–they all hold power. For I am just as potent in my sprouting as I am in my blossoming.
Every season carries meaning.
Every stage holds purpose.
And every shift brings me closer to who I am created to be.
